One hundred years ago, in July of 1925, a Tennessee teacher named John Scopes was convicted for the "crime" of teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution. The landmark Scopes (Monkey) Trial, famously dramatized in the classic film Inherit the Wind, challenged the boundaries between science and faith. It profoundly shaped science education for decades. The law that Mr. Scopes broke by teaching evolution wasn't repealed until 1967.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of this historic event, Professor Alan Rogers, who taught anthropology at the University of Utah and who literally wrote the book on “The Evidence For Evolution”, (available on Amazon) will give a presentation about the evidence for and against evolution that was known during Darwin’s time, and then contrast that with evidence available today. The general public is welcome to attend.
